Kiersten
Sigfusson fresh off her stunning victory of Cherish Morrison in the 400m run at
the Bedlington Invitational last week, followed up by a win in the 800m run
versus Bellingham and Mt. Baker, was selected by the Bellingham Herald as
girl’s athlete of the week. The often unnoticed Sigfusson, part of the state
best 4x200m relay team, ran a 59.7 in the400m at the Bedlington and then
clocked in at 2 minutes, 29.8 to win the 800m on March 31.
Senior
wrestlers Camden Nix and Jeremy Holdaas were selected to the Herald’s
all-Whatcom county wrestling team. Nix finished 3rd at the Class 2A state
tournament this year. Holdaas was second in the state in consecutive years as
well as winning a northwest conference title and the Joe Beam Invitational this
year.

Blaine wrestlers receiving honorable mention were Shaypher Hendricks, Tony
Jordon, Jamal Mallak, A.J. Pieczynski, Shaffer Hicks and Joel Garza.
