Blaine’s Jeff Coston, considered a favorite in his fourth bid to qualify for the 2010 U.S. Senior Open Championships and playing the sectional qualifier at his home course at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club, struggled in the one day event July 5, shooting a 4 over par 76 and finishing in a seven way tie for sixth place. The finish left Coston on the outside looking in as only the top two finishers move on to the U.S. Senior Open.

On a day when Semiahmoo was uncustomarily tough, only one golfer, Boise’s Jeff Thomsen, broke par shooting a 2 under 70. Thomsen’s playing partner, Tom Brandes of Bellevue was the second qualifier with an even par 72. The U.S. Senior Open will be played at nearby Shalee Country Club in Sammamish July 29 through August 1.
Next up for Coston will be the Rosaurers Open Invitational at Indian Canyon golf course in Spokane July 14 through 18.
