Blaine junior guard Stefawn Perrin lead the Lady Borderite’s basketball team to a 49-38 non-conference victory against the Meridian Trojans on Tuesday night at Blaine.

The win puts the Borderites at an even 2-2 going into Saturday’s home game against Lakewood.

Perrin scored a season-high 24 points against the Trojans. The win makes two in a row since their non-conference victory at La Conner on Saturday, December 4. Coming off a 50-24 trouncing on Thursday, December 2, the Lady Borderites were able to turn Saturday night’s game around in the fourth period and beat the La Conner Braves 40-37.

The Borderites traveled to La Conner to face the Braves. Perrin and senior guard Libby Moore topped the stat charts for Blaine with 15 and 8 points on the game, respectively. Perrin tied a La Conner player for game-high scoring.

The Borderites began outscoring the Braves after the first period, but faced a remounted challenge from La Conner with less than one minute left in the fourth. Blaine was able to rebound from an 8-point deficit as the clock ticked past 59 seconds and secure their first win of the season.

The Lady Borderites showed a marked improvement from their game against the Sehome Mariners on Thursday, December 2, at Sehome high school.

Starting with a lead garnered partially from free throws, the Mariners punctuated their dominating first period performance with a last-second field goal that put the score at 26-0.

Senior forward Emily Ross sunk the first basket of the game for Blaine early in the first period, but strong passing and making free throws at will kept the Mariners out of reach with a score of 35-15 heading into halftime.

While Blaine showed more hustle coming into the third period, the Borderites could not get any successful scoring runs going; this, while the Mariners ran the length of the court to score virtually at will.

Perrin once again led in scoring for the Borderites with 10 points on the night, while Sehome’s Rachel Albert capped off her dominating performance with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The Borderites next take on Lakewood high school at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, at Blaine.
