Blaine’s high school wrestling team has a string of strong performances under its belt after a third place finish at the Paul Reiman Classic in Mount Vernon on Saturday and a win against Lynden high school on December 15.
Blaine wrestler Tony Jordan, at 130 pounds, took first place in his division at the Paul Reiman Classic with a 2-1 win against Brandon Blevins of Marysville. Jordan also made a fierce showing against Lynden by pinning Zach Wilde in the third round.
Blaine freshman Kyle Gonzales and Aiden Jackson each beat their opponents in the last two bouts of the meet to put the contest out of reach for the Lions. The Borderites took the meet from Lynden 44-32.
On December 11 and 12, Blaine high school played host to 19 other high schools from across western Washington at the Battle of the Border tournament.
Blaine secured a third place finish at the Battle at the Border. Blaine previously took first place at the Mariner Holiday Classic in Everett on December 4 and beat Bellingham 48-21 on December 8.
Mount Baker high school was dominant throughout the BATB tournament and took first place, with Kentwood high school coming in second.The Borderites next compete at home against Nooksack Valley at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5.
