Blaine earns individual victories at annual Battle at the Border

Blaine took fifth overall with 150 team points in the annual Battle at the Border, a two-day, 22-team wrestling tournament held at Blaine High School on Saturday, December 10.

The Borderites had two first-place individual finishes in Shaypher Hendricks and Caleb Johnson.

Hendricks pinned Mount Baker High School’s Zach Larson to win the 152-pound class championship, and Johnson pinned Ferndale’s Kam Williams to win the 220-pound class.

Despite having just one individual first-place finisher, Mount Baker won the tournament with a team-total 254 points. Todd Beamer High School took second with 242 team points and a tournament-high four individual championships.

Following behind in the top-10 team finishes: Kentwood (171), Mount Vernon (157), Blaine (150), Black Hills (137.5), Sehome (127), Ferndale (122.5), Everett (114), and Issaquah (90).

The Borderites next head to Mount Vernon High School for the Paul Reiman Classic wrestling tournament on Saturday, December 17. The action starts at 10 a.m.
