The Blaine girls’ varsity volleyball team did not match up well with the Red Raiders in a tough away game on Tuesday, September 25.
The traveling Borderites never got out of first gear, and lost the first three of the five-game set, 25-9, 25-16 and 25-17. While the girls did show some fight by running up scoring streaks of nine points to the Red Raiders’ two, and eight-to-one runs in the first and third games, it was always too little, too late.
The Borderites just did not stand up well to the “Twin Towers” of Bellingham High. Red Raiders’ spikers, Olivia Halverson and Anna Zeegers (both 6'1" and they look even taller), kept the Borderites at bay.
The Borderites needed to play their best game to be competitive, but it just was not in the cards on this night.
“We tried everything, including lineup and position changes, but it might have made things worse with girls playing out of their comfort zones,” said head coach Sheli Moore.
