The Mount Baker wrestling team put up a strong effort against Blaine during a January 16 dual meet, forcing eight of 12 matches to a decision on points. All the same, Blaine came out on top in the highly contested matchup between rivals, besting Mount Baker on their home mats 40-22.

The victory advances Blaine to a 5-0 record in dual meets.

Blaine sophomore Billy Dodd started things off with a pin against Erik Heath in the 113-lb. match. Freshman Trevin Brady  (120 lbs.) earned a 9-2 decision against Mount Baker’s Calvin Ledet.

Sophomore Gage Lott wrestled next at 126 lbs., winning his match on points after a technical violation by his opponent, Mount Baker senior Hunter Schenk.

Blaine freshman Anthony Frey won his 132-lb. match against Jeremiah Cronk, 7-1. Christian Sharp, a Blaine junior, won his 145-lb. match against Zach Larson, 7-1. Blaine senior captain Justin Belding won a decisive 11-0 decision over Alex Tyska at 152 lbs.

Carrying momentum forward, 160-lb. senior co-captain Jon Stewart beat his opponent Travis Lindsey 9-2. Blaine senior Caleb Johnson won the 220-lb. matchup against Mount Baker’s Sterling Honeycutt. Both Johnson and Honeycutt are state title contenders, and the two were 1-1 in previous matches this season before heading into the ring at Mount Baker. 

Mikey Antczak, the junior heavyweight standout, pinned Mount Baker’s Matt Scole, sealing the victory in the final match for Blaine.
