Two stars from the Borderite’s state tournament team of 2009 have made identical selections and are off to California to join their new football team.

An off season of speculation and a two-month search ended December 17, when Blaine athletic director Wayne Vezzetti hired former Borderite assistant coach Alisa Burk to replace the departed Tim Esposito as head coach of girl’s softball at Blaine.

Fielding a team that featured nine players at least 6' 2" or taller and holding a 5-1 record that includes quality wins over Mount Baker and Squalicum, Lynden Christian seemed poised for another deep run in the 1A state basketball rankings coming into their Monday, January 3, contest with Blaine.

Blaine seniors Sean Allen, Todd Bird and Andrew Miller were honored for their football exploits even as they continue to forge through the Borderite basketball season.
