Wrestlers advance to regionals

The Mount Baker Mountaineers may have taken first place at last weekend’s sub regional wrestling tournament at Squalicum high school, but their performance did not stop the Borderites from securing a third place overall finish and advancing 10 wrestlers to regional competition this coming weekend.

It’s hard to have a storybook ending that includes an 11-game losing streak, a host of lopsided routs and a disappointing season of unfulfilled expectations.

Blaine sinks in Storm’s rain of threes

Blaine’s boy’s basketball teams has won two games this year. Squalicum’s team has won two consecutive state championships. While the fab five that brought those trophies to Whatcom county has moved on, the program continues.

Borderites fall in thriller to Red Raiders

The sequence won’t go down in sports history but it did mark the loss of an enormous opportunity for the Blaine boys basketball team.

Mountaineers climb over Borderites 47-27

The Borderites were unable to hold onto a 21-5 opening lead halfway into last Wednesday’s wrestling meet at Mt. Baker high school and succumbed to the Mountaineers’ pin-happy middle and heavyweights, losing the Northwest Conference (NWC) regular season wrestling title 47-2
