2014 Year in Review: Blaine Chamber of Commerce

Here is what 2014 looked like for the Blaine Chamber of Commerce:

January: The Pizza Factory was voted 2013 Business of the Year. Member of the Month was Blaine Harbor Dental.

February: The Bite of Blaine annual fundraiser brought in $10,000 for our fireworks. Member of the Month was Paso del Norte Restaurant.

March: The Wings Over Water Northwest Birding Festival expanded to three days. Member of the Month was Healthy Tan by Brenna.

April: Member of the Month was Horseshoe Coins & Collectibles.

May: The Mother’s Day Art Tour added a location at Semiahmoo Resort; the chamber hosted the first annual 5 and 10K Food Run; and the Gardener’s Market, MV Plover ferry, APA Museum and Peace Arch Sculpture Exhibit opened for the season.

June: Peace Arch Park was the site of the second annual International Art Festival. Member of the Month was The Northern Light newspaper.

July: More than 12,000 people attended the 14th annual Old Fashioned 4th of July; the Drayton Harbor Music Festival, formerly the Blaine Jazz Festival, returned for another year; and the International Peace Run to the Peace Arch brought runners from around the world. Member of the Month was Washington Federal bank.

August: The 8th annual Drayton Harbor Days and tall ships visit brought 2,500 visitors to the harbor for family fun and pirate activities. Member of the Month was Blaine Insurance.

September: Blaine Bouquet Floral & Gifts celebrated their 20th anniversary. Member of the month was Smuggler’s Inn.

October: Scarecrow displays were set up throughout downtown. Our website was upgraded to include online voting and Blaine Healing Arts’ scarecrow exhibit was voted the best. The gardener’s market celebrated the harvest festival with pumpkin painting and baked goodies galore. Member of the Month was Drayton Harbor Maritime.

November: Member of the Month was Kelly Medical Services.

December: The Holiday Harbor Lights Festival lit Santa’s way into town, where he browsed for arts and crafts. Member of the Month was Swanson Art Glass.

We welcomed 14 new members this year, bringing our total to 87.
