An abandoned home in Blaine was demolished on April 11.

The home, located at 481 C Street, was owned by William Dobie and has been abandoned for at least two years, said community planner Maddie Ottley.

In May 2016, the city issued a notice of civil violation to Dobie, owner of Country Enterprises Inc., citing overgrown vegetation, “vulgar” graffiti and poor structure of the C Street home. Two other properties he owns also had violations, including one at 2480 Bell Road as well as the Rocky Mountain Trading Post building.

In August 2016, hearing examiner Roger Ellingson reviewed the violations for all three properties and issued a $2,000 fine and series of orders for Dobie. In November 2016, Ellingson held another hearing; Dobie had completed just one of the seven orders and was issued another $2,000 fine.

“Dobie testified that his reason for failing to comply with the August decision was because he suffered a heart attack in early September,” read the November decision from Ellingson. “While he showed the hearing examiner a list of doctor’s appointments in late October through December, he failed to provide any documentation that he had indeed suffered a heart attack.”

On April 13, Ellingson held a hearing to revisit the violations against all three properties. Within the next few weeks, he will issue a decision that will detail additional corrective actions and potential fines, Ottley said.
