December featured artists: Ganga and Neal Engeledow
Neal and Ganga Engledow are retired, but they pass their time by making beautiful things. Neal works exclusively in wood, but Ganga makes jewelry, quilts and gourmet food, hence the name Mixed Media Crafts.
Neal’s career was as a journalist with USA Today. His interest in woodworking began with a shop class in 
junior high school and he has continued making sawdust ever since.
Ganga honed her skills working with kids in her career as a teacher. She once turned 90 wooden tops – one for each of her students – and built a life-size mermaid out of plastic spoons.
The couple met in Fiji, Ganga’s home country, and lived in Hawaii and Northern Virginia before settling in Blaine in 2009. They are active in the local arts and crafts community, participating in several craft shows each year, including the Holiday Market this month.

November 28 – December 14: “A Christmas Story” at the Claire vg Thomas Theatre, 655 Front Street, Lynden. Exciting song and dance numbers and a large cast make this hilarious, heartwarming musical a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit. December 16: Blaine Middle School concert, 7 p.m. at Blaine’s PAC, 975 H Street.
December 6–7: Blaine Holiday Art Market, Goff Building, 674 Peace Portal Drive. Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Unique gifts and home decor items created by local Blaine artists.
