Blaine Police Department reports: January 3-9

January 3, 8:24 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of a street for a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and determined it was a verbal argument between two individuals regarding their relationship status. Officers issued a verbal warning and cleared with no further incident.

January 3, 9:45 p.m.: Officers responded to the Peace Arch Port of Entry for a Driving Under the Influence investigation. An officer determined the 77-year-old driver from Surrey was intoxicated, and he was arrested.

January 3, 11:53 p.m.: Officers responded to the 200 block of Boblett Street for a report an intoxicated male. While responding, officers learned the individual had thrown something at the reporting person's front door. Officers arrived and contacted the man walking in an alley. Officers learned the thrown item was a flower pot the man had stolen off of another neighbor's porch. The man was ultimately arrested on multiple charges and booked into Whatcom County Jail.

January 4, 8:31 a.m.: A person attempted to avoid a collision when another vehicle pulled out in front of them. They missed that vehicle, but accidentally side swiped a parked vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was not identified, as they continued to drive away. A state collision report was completed.

January 4, 11:54 a.m.: Officers took a report of a probable attempted fraud. A woman reported being asked to deposit and cash a check from an out of state business. The complainant did not do as instructed and waited a reasonable amount of time before pulling money out her bank account. The check was returned for insufficient funds and the suspect would not return any calls from the complainant. Neither the bank or reporting party was out any money. At this time there is insufficient suspect information to continue the investigation.

January 4, 2:54 p.m.: A concerned resident called to report a possible attempted burglary/unlawful entrance to her property. The property is a house currently under construction. The owner noticed what appeared to be pry marks on one of the doors to the house as well as 'out of place' foot prints in the yard.  The owner believes this activity occurred several days ago, but within the week.  Extra patrol is requested as officers are able.

January 4, 3:13 p.m.: An employee with the Blaine Elementary School called reporting an assault that just occurred between two high school students on one of the Blaine School District buses. Officers contacted the involved parties and their parents. It was decided the situation would best be handled through the school; no criminal charges to be filed.

January 4, 4:47 p.m.: A Blaine resident walked into the police department to drop off a purse. The individual had her son's girlfriend trespassed from her property and no longer wanted to keep possession of the girl's purse. Officers took the property into safekeeping.

January 5, 11:44 a.m.: Multiple callers reported a BC Commercial Vehicle striking a sign in the Shell Gas parking lot. Officers arrived simultaneous to the call being dispatched. The driver of the tractor trailer was backing up and zigged when he should have zagged, bending a city of Blaine sign. A WA State collision report was filed.

January 5, 12:59 p.m.: Officers were informed of a semi-tractor trailer going southbound in the northbound lanes of I5. CBPO, USBP and Blaine PD officers responded and stopped the semi on I5. I5 was briefly shutdown while the semi was turned around. The Ontario driver was cited for driving the wrong way on a freeway and released.

January 5, 11:45 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to the 8900 block of Peace Portal Dr. for an individual possibly looking in mail boxes.Officers arrived and contacted the man. Officers determined he had no mail in his possession. A Whatcom County Sheriff's deputy arrived and gave the man a courtesy ride to Ferndale.

January 6, 11:45 a.m.: Officers were requested at the Peace Arch Port of Entry for a BC driver with a suspended license. Officers arrived and confirmed the identity and driving status of the BC resident. The driver was arrested, cited and released with a mandatory court date.

January 6, 1:33 p.m.: Officers were dispatched to assist NWFRS for a patient who is known to be combative. Officers arrived and waited for aid personnel. Shortly after arrival, NWFRS cancelled officer assistance as the patient called back and declined medical attention. Officers cleared with no incident.

January 6, 1:55 p.m.: Officers were dispatched for a second time, within minutes of clearing, for a person in the 200 block of Martin Street needing medical attention who has been known to be combative. Officers arrived and stood by with NWFRS and Medics while they tended to the patient. Although the person was animated, he was not assaultive. He was ultimately transported to the ER.

January 6, 12:40 p.m.: Officer responded to a residence where CPR was in progress. Officer arrived and assisted NWFRS until the patient was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

January 7, 10:35 a.m.: A BC couple called police to report a theft that occurred the previous day at a local business. The BC couple had already recovered the stolen phone, as they willingly met up with the alleged suspect and were given their phone back. An officer investigated the incident and determined the "suspect" had mistakenly taken the phone, thinking he was picking up his wife's phone for her. No charges were filed.

January 7, 3:05 p.m.: Police were dispatched to assist the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office with a physical domestic dispute in progress. Officers arrived and secured the scene until deputies arrived and investigated the incident.

January 7, 9:15 p.m.: Blaine Police were dispatched to assist North Whatcom Fire and Rescue with an odd alarm in the 1700 Block of H Street. NWFRS had been dispatched to a medical motion alarm inside a closed business but quickly realized the type of alarm was most likely an error and requested police assistance. A manager arrived and allowed police to clear the building. No emergency was determined to be occurring.

January 8, 3 a.m.: An officer responded to the 6300 Block of Portal Way to assist Ferndale Police who were requesting an emergency response from any available nearby units because of a subject with a knife. Blaine Police assisted Ferndale units in restraining the man and putting him in handcuffs. The man fought with police during the process, but no injuries were reported from the man or officers.

January 9, 7:15 a.m.: Blaine police responded to the WTA bus stop outside of the police department for a report of a man awaiting Aid because he was experiencing chest pain. The officer contacted the man, who is known to be combative. The officer kept the man calm until an Aid crew arrived and assessed the man's condition. He was ultimately transported to St. Joseph's ER.
