Blaine school district in a lockout

Posted

The Blaine school district went into a lockout Friday morning while the Blaine police department (BPD) investigated graffiti found in a girls bathroom on the high school campus. According to a district notice, there is no verified threat on any of the district’s campuses, but no one will be permitted to enter or exit any of the campuses until the lockout is lifted.

With threats in multiple Whatcom County schools in the past couple of weeks, BPD is investigating the situation and providing an increased presence on the district’s campus, according to the notice.

A lockout is called when there is a threat or hazard outside of the school building. According to school protocols, the exterior doors to the school are locked and classes continue as usual.

"We are grateful for the cooperation of our law enforcement partners for their willingness to respond and work with us during these times," the notice read.
