Thanks to a donation from the Alcoa Foundation, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Whatcom County (BGCWC) will offer two drug prevention programs, called Project Learn and Positive Action, at club sites in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden and Blaine.

“The social, economic and health impacts of underage use of tobacco, alcohol, opioids, marijuana and illegal drugs are well-documented nationally and in Whatcom County,” read a press release. “The crisis has reached the point of being an epidemic in our community.”

The programs are designed to teach kids how to make good choices, build self-esteem, avoid risky behaviors and reject illicit drugs. Instructors will teach kids about respect, trust, honesty, communication and how to make healthy choices.

To learn more, contact BGCWC chief development officer Sara Maloney at 360/738-3808, extension 304 or at smaloney@whatcomclubs.org.
