County looking for public input on participation in local decision making

Posted

Whatcom County is looking for input on how the public would most like to participate in local government. A seven-question survey was posted October 1 as part of a larger county effort to review the local public engagement process and identify areas for improvement, according to an October 1 Whatcom County government news release.

“We hope to get a sense of how community members want to participate in the decision-making processes of Whatcom County and what we can do that would make the public feel more willing to provide input or engage with County government,” said Jed Holmes, community outreach facilitator for the Whatcom County Executive’s Office, in the news release.

Questions pertain to where residents find information about Whatcom County government and where they would prefer to find it. The survey also asks people if they have ever been to a local government meeting, what type of meeting it was, whether it was remote or in-person, and what would make them more willing to provide input and engage in county government.

The survey will run through the month of October. The news release says a final report is expected to be presented to county council before the end of the year.
