Be sure to clean up debris on the sidewalk

By Stefanie Donahue

With winter fast approaching, the city is reminding property owners in Blaine to remove obstructive debris from sidewalks that abut their homes and businesses.

Per Blaine Municipal Code (BMC) 12.27.070, property owners are responsible for removing ice, snow, mud, dirt, earth, plant refuse, paper, debris or other accumulated material within 24 hours after it’s deposited if it obstructs a sidewalk that abuts their property.

Property owners are also responsible for trimming grass or weeds to a maximum height of 18 inches to prevent the obstruction of sidewalks by vegetation.

If residents see areas with sitting water that is not draining,  they are requested to report those locations to public works for attention. Residents are also asked to keep curbs and gutters clear if possible.
