Blaine City Council voted 6–0 on December 10 to approve a $247,836 contract with Dirt Works Bellingham Inc. to demolish a building at 665 Peace Portal Drive.
The building was formerly occupied by the Costa Azul restaurant and is in poor condition, posing a risk to public safety. “The building has fallen apart,” said public works director Ravyn Whitewolf.
The contract includes the cost of permitting, asbestos abatement, demolition and disposal of the structure. A lien will be placed on the property to recoup the cost.
