The Northern Light collected comments made by online readers who responded to recent stories. Here’s what they had to say:

Responding to: “Golf carts approved for Birch Bay roads on a trial basis.” The story ran in the May 24 edition.

The Editor:

I am totally against this. Can’t wait to be stuck behind a line of traffic with a golf cart going 15 mph. Or when a golf cart-motorcycle accident occurs.

The Editor:

This is awesome! I am totally looking forward to driving either of my two electric carts down the drive legally! I have been doing this for years anyways and I follow the law of the road and when I see a car coming behind me I pull over to let them by. This is also very good for the environment if your cart is electric. I hope there are cart owners out there who won’t abuse the laws of the road and ruin it for the rest of us.

The Editor:

Will help cart rentals, not our regular businesses though. If we had special lanes for them, it wouldn’t be a problem, [but] that isn’t going to happen.

Traffic slow in Birch Bay, rarely. In Birch Bay, we share the road. Have patience, relax. Leave earlier.

The Editor:

It used to be that on Memorial Day weekend, the speed limit went to 10 mph, and at the end of Labor Day weekend, it went up to 25 ... either way, I think golf carts can keep up.

Not all of us are retired or tourists. The last thing we need is to get stuck behind golf carts.

The Editor:

We don’t even have a golf course. This is not a gated, private community either. It’s a public road with a few vacation condos and homes, not a resort. The laws should be enforced (legal vehicles/bicycles) and I don’t understand how a “council” of people can outvote the law?

The Editor:

Well now that golf carts are legal let’s make it so we can register our four-wheelers and side-by-sides for the street like many other states. Transportation is transportation.

Responding to: “Sidewalk through Peace Arch State Park near completion.” The story ran in the May 24 edition.

The Editor:

This project is long overdue. The lack of a sidewalk on the U.S. side of the border reflected poorly on Washington and the U. S. Kudos to Jason Snow for working through eight or nine years of red tape to get the funding needed to complete the sidewalk.
