Man arrested in Lynden; facing rape, theft charges

Whatcom County sheriff’s deputies arrested Gary Samuel Giles, 62, in Lynden on October 27 after receiving a report of repeated domestic violence incidents that allegedly occurred over a one-year period, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).

The female complainant alleged in an October 19 report that Giles raped and assaulted her. According to chief deputy Kevin Hester, the complainant is a Birch Bay resident.

A subsequent investigation led by the WCSO found that Giles allegedly accessed images from the complainant’s computer and stole an SD card.

Giles was booked into Whatcom County Jail on October 27. He is facing second and fourth degree assault, second and third degree rape, first degree computer trespass and second degree theft charges.

Giles posted $25,000 bail and was released from custody on October 30. He is due back in Whatcom County Superior Court for an arraignment at 9 a.m. on November 9.
