Medicare open enrollment nears

Posted

Seniors and other qualified Medicare recipients can make changes to their coverage Sunday, October 15 through Thursday, December 7. To help navigate the complex system, the Blaine Senior Center is hosting a free workshop this month. Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA), a branch of the state insurance commissioner’s consumer protection services, will make a stop at the Blaine Senior Center from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17.

Advisors at the senior center will help guests make informed choices by comparing existing healthcare and prescription plans.

Individuals age 65 and older, qualified younger people with disabilities and people with end-stage renal disease qualify to participate in the insurance program, which provides beneficiaries access to critical health services. Cost, coverage and the number of participating providers and pharmacies change under the federal health insurance program year from year.

The open enrollment period allows Medicare beneficiaries to obtain coverage that suits their changing needs.
