North Cascades Concert Band to perform in Blaine

Posted

The North Cascades Concert Band is bringing some holiday spirit to town with a performance of their fall concert.

Rob Pattermann, music director and conductor of the band, chose “Strike Up The Band” as the theme for this Rob-Pattermannyear’s event, in reference to the George and Ira Gershwin song of the same name. In addition to the Gershwin tune, the band is set to perform classics like Gustav Holst’s “In the Bleak Midwinter,” Leonard Bernstein’s “Slava” and Irving Berlin’s “Alexander’s Ragtime Band.”

Charyl Sagar, a jazz singer known for interpreting the songs of the ’40s and ’50s, is the featured vocalist. Sagar and the band will perform jazzy renditions of old favorites like “Over the Rainbow” and “Someone to Watch Over Me,” as well as festive songs to ring in the holiday season.

The band will perform on Friday, December 5 at the Blaine school district performing arts center at 7:30 p.m. The Bellingham Alumni Band, under the direction of Frank Kuhl, will be featured musicians.

The program is free, but donations are welcome. For more information visit nccband.org.
