PSE customers to get up to $40 credit on their power bills

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers will receive a small credit this winter.

On November 17, PSE reps announced they will be granting a one-time credit of about $40 to all of their customers. PSE has more than one million customers in eight counties.

The credit stems from PSE’s sale of assets in Jefferson County in 2010. More than $59 million will be paid out to PSE customers, which includes interest accrued since the sale of infrastructure and services to the Jefferson County Public Utility District.

Every residential and business customer will receive the credit automatically. Due to the varying billing cycles for different customers, some people will receive part of the credit on their December bill and the rest in January.

PSE petitioned the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) to distribute the credits in winter, when energy bills are typically higher due to colder weather and shorter daylight hours. UTC approved the petition in October. According to PSE, the credits will be based on electricity use for the month of December.
