The Whatcom County Amphibian Monitoring Program (WCAMP) is offering a free training to people to identify amphibians and their eggs.

Sponsored by the BP Cherry Point refinery, the training will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 at Birch Bay State Park’s BP Heron Center. Participants will learn how to identify the egg mass and adult forms of amphibians in lowland Whatcom County while exploring survey lands owned by BP.

“Folks considering getting involved should be comfortable working in water, being outside in all types weather, and traversing uneven ground. Field work will be off-trail, with many obstructions,” according to WCAMP.

Training is free, but participants are asked to provide at least 12 hours of volunteer time surveying for amphibians between February and May. Participants must be 18 or older.
