Happy New Year from the Blaine Senior Center!

We had a wonderful 2017 and are looking forward to an even better 2018. Our membership has grown, and we are looking forward to even more of you joining our organization and participating in our activities.

I hear all the time “my mom or my dad won’t join because they are not ‘seniors’”; well you can join at 50 and trust me, as I look at the men and women of this center, I see friendships, I see smiles and laughs – I see “older adults” celebrating life!

December is turning out to be a festive time here at the center. The elves have been busy decorating and I must say they did a beautiful job! Please stop in to see for yourself. There is a lot to share in the joy of the holidays.

Blaine Elementary Nightingale Choir performed, and the Blaine High School Life Skills class has a tradition of caroling and bringing treats to the center. This continues to be so positive for the students with special needs as well as for the center spreading their holiday cheer.

We are excited to share a traditional Christmas Dinner made by our Filipino members called Noche Buena with a special acapella performance by the Bellingham Sacred Heart Choir; at this time, tickets are sold out.

The pool sharks at the center wanted to upgrade to a larger table. They searched and found a snooker table, raised funds amongst themselves and have spent time rearranging the pool room! They even had new felt laid down. It looks fantastic and we can’t wait to get some tournaments going.

The BSC needs a new commercial reach-in refrigerator as our current one no longer works and is unrepairable. A new one is crucial for feeding seniors for our Meals on Wheels and Nutrition Program. We received a donation with a matching fund challenge. Because we are an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization, your donation is tax deductible.

One of the most exciting things we discovered is that the Blaine Senior Center had its 50th anniversary in 2017. Unfortunately, we found out too late to celebrate, so this year we will be having a 50 Plus One Celebration. If you have any pictures or stories, please be sure to drop them off at the BSC office and tell them what they are for. No date has been set but we will let you know in plenty of time to be able to celebrate with us.

If you have never been to the Blaine Senior Center stop in and visit; we would love to show you around and introduce you to staff and members. We have a monthly newsletter that you can pick up to see how many wonderful activities we have going on every day. We have a lot of fun at the BSC.
