Young at Heart

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is a few days away and 2019 is just around the corner. Where did the time go?

Blaine Senior Center director Kathy Sitker wrote in our latest newsletter that the Blaine Senior Center had almost 700 members at the end of November. The center offers a multitude of activities to its members.

We have a gym and pool hall, bridge and pinochle games, as well as a painting class, bible study, meditation, Bunco, foot clinics and blood pressure checks each week. Members can join a weight loss support group, exercise and stretch class or play Big Bucks Bingo, which we host once a month. The center also shows movies, hosts pancake breakfasts and offers informational sessions.

We plan to host fundraisers next year and will need help from volunteers. Anyone can lend a hand, whether or not they’re a member. We love to have new people come and see what we are all about.

Thank you to all the vendors, customers and members who helped put on the Christmas Bazaar this year. The volunteer committee and Blaine Senior Center staff began planning in September. We changed a few things this year and, after hearing your suggestions, may change a few more next year.

Because of the Blaine Senior Center, I have tried new things and have learned a lot about myself. By taking classes and getting involved, I have learned that I can draw and paint, write, play cards and Bingo and I am organized and capable of helping put on a fundraiser. Most importantly, I have made new friends.

Come join the fun at the Blaine Senior Center, and you too may discover a new interest or passion. Bring your talents, as we can always use new ideas and new friends. Happy holidays everyone and have a safe and happy New Year.
