The biggest news to come out of today's (July 19) Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce meeting seemed to be the progress county executive Pete Kremen has made with bathrooms for Birch Bay. Chamber president John Gargett said Kremen secured about $4,000 on July 1 for the 14 portable restrooms that are now lining parts of Birch Bay Drive.

Gargett said Kremen told him county parks and recreation staff are currently researching grants to fund possible permanent bathroom buildings for Birch Bay. Gargett said the county has to think about the costs of maintaining such bathrooms, not just building them.

Gargett also indicated a Birch Bay community meeting could be planned for September or October to discuss where the permanent bathrooms could be built. Such a project could mean a private landowner selling a piece of property to the county, and Gargett said the community meeting would address that issue.

No details on meeting dates were available. I'll keep the blog updated as I know more.
