Birch Bay Water and Sewer District officials will discuss increases in water and sewer rates at the regular district board of commissioners meeting this afternoon.

As I reported here, district officials are experiencing a decline in revenue due to this summer’s wet and cold weather. To help remedy this, the district will most likely have to raise water and sewer rates, though the exact amount has yet to be determined.

District manager Roger Brown will give a presentation on his proposed rate increases at this afternoon’s meeting. District officials increased water and sewer rates by 1 percent across the board in 2009.

The board typically holds its meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of a given month, but district officials decided to move the last meeting in November to today (November 17) due to Thanksgiving. The meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. at the district offices at 7096 Point Whitehorn Road in Birch Bay.
