Blaine officials have announced the due date for construction bids on a $200,000 project that will improve a section of trail alongside Peace Portal Drive.

Bids are due April 20 for the Peace Portal Trail project, which will improve about 4,500 feet of gravel trail on the east side of Peace Portal Drive running from Cherry Street to Bayview Street. The construction will add a 10-foot-wide paved asphalt trail that will be accessible to both pedestrians and bicyclists and be fully ADA compliant.

The city has received most of the money for the project in state and federal transportation grants. A portion of the funds will also come from Northwest Park and Recreation District 2. The entire project is expected to cost between $175,000 and $250,000.

The city expects work on the trail to start in May and wrap up in mid-June. Blaine public works staff expect to have a construction contract ready for Blaine City Council to vote on by the April 23 city council meeting.
