According to a press release from the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, Adrian Montelongo, 21, and Jose Santos, 22, have admitted to shooting a man in the parking lot of the Golden Nut factory in Blaine on December 4, 2011.

A joint investigation by the Blaine Police Department, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department and the Bellingham Police Department determined that Rogelio Fernando Solano, Adrian Montelongo, Jose Luis Santos and Steve Ibarra drove to the Golden Nut, located at 1555 Odell Road, where both Solano and the victim worked.

The purpose of the visit was allegedly to retaliate against the victim for a previous gang-related shooting that occurred in Bellingham in October 2011. They claim to have disabled the man’s truck and then waited for him to get off work.

A detective assigned to gang and dangerous offender investigations interviewed Montelongo and Santos and reports that they admitted that they and Ibarra participated in the Golden Nut shooting.

Ibarra was recently sentenced to serve 46 months with the Washington State Department of Corrections for a separate shooting in the city of Bellingham in April 2012. The investigation into Ibarra’s involvement in the Blaine shooting continues.

All subjects involved in the incident were either confirmed gang members or associates affiliated with the Brown Pride Surenos and 18th Street gangs.

Santos and Montelongo have been arrested and booked into the Whatcom County Jail on investigation of attempted homicide.
