Birch Bay Water and Sewer District talks lock-off policy
Consider this the first in a what will hopefully be a series of posts following the various governmental meetings I attend as part of my job as a reporter. These posts will describe what was discussed at these meetings and may or may not be expanded into a full story. As a reporter, I consider myself the eyes and ears of roughly 10,000 people (The estimated readership of The Northern Light), and these posts will be part of connecting these people with their local governments.
Glenn Golay has pleaded guilty to nine counts of first-degree theft

Peace Arch State Park will host international concert series
I just got a press release from the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission about an upcoming series of concerts in Blaine. The commission has announced the 2011 lineup for the Peace Arch International Concert Series at, you guessed it, Peace Arch State Park. The free outdoor concerts are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sundays from August 14 to September 4. Attendees will not be required to have a Discover Pass to park at the state park for the events.
Glenn Golay guilty plea, sentencing tomorrow
I just got off the phone with Roger Brown, the general manager of the Birch Bay Water and Sewer District. He tells me that former district treasurer Glenn Golay, accused of stealing about $468,000 from the district, is set to enter a guilt plea and be sentenced tomorrow, July 14. The sentencing will happen at 8:30 in the morning in department three, judge Charles Snyder's courtroom, in Whatcom County Superior Court (the third floor of the county courthouse). I've confirmed this information with the superior court criminal clerk.
Peace Arch State Park to sell Discover Passes
Via The Northern Light Facebook page and my colleague Tara Nelson, Peace Arch State Park will be selling Discover Passes from noon to 2 p.m. this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 14 - 17, at the park. Free parking will be available during those times. Volunteers with the park will be charging $30 for the passes and, since they will be volunteering, the regularly charged $5 processing fee will not be included. For more information, call Peace Arch State Park at 360/332-8221.
