Blaine Police Department Reports, February 4-10, 2021

January 26, 12:01 p.m.: Earlier in the month, an officer tagged a vehicle abandoned in the 300 block of B Street. The weather prevented the windows from being marked with fluorescent ink. A week later the officer re-marked the vehicle as abandoned with ink. The vehicle was eventually impounded as abandoned three weeks later.

January 24, 12:30 p.m.: A person was trespassed from a business in the 1700 block of H Street.  The person was issued a trespass letter.

January 24, 4:36 p.m.: A police officer was on routine patrol when they stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The police officer determined the driver did not have a valid driver’s license in the state of Washington and they did not have identification with them. The driver was arrested and given a criminal citation for driving while not having a valid driver’s license without any other identification with them, and then released. The driver left his vehicle in the driveway of the house they were staying at.

January 25, 12 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to the US port of entry for a U.S./Canadian driver who was driving on a Washington state suspended driving status. A Blaine officer arrested, cited and released the person pending their mandatory court appearance.

January 25, 1:33 p.m.: A person reported their email account was compromised and someone emailed all their contacts to send money orders for help. An officer suggested ways to prevent this in the future.

January 25, 1:45 p.m.: Blaine police were contacted by a mental health professional about an American male who was going to Canada and was committed to a mental health facility while there. A court order was provided to the police so that the man could be committed and treated at a mental health facility in Whatcom County when he was brought back to the U.S.

January 25, 4:59 p.m.: A woman called police reporting speeding vehicles by her home. Officers will provide extra patrols in the area when they are available.

January 25, 11:04 p.m.: Blaine police were requested to respond to a traffic stop made by a U.S. CBP officer. CBP had stopped a man and had concerns about his mental state. Officers spoke with the man and assisted him in checking into a hotel.

January 26, 8:15 a.m.: Blaine high school called to report that a student was found on campus with illegal drugs. A police officer arrested the student for being in possession of illegal drugs and then released the student to his parent. The police officer referred the case to the juvenile prosecutors’ office.

January 26, 10 a.m.: A mental health worker reported a person stated they felt like driving their vehicle into the Blaine police department because he was upset his case was not being solved. A police officer contacted the person who made the threat and advised him his case was solved. The person said he never intended to drive his vehicle into the police station, but was just upset his case was not solved fast enough. The police determined there was no substantial threat.

January 26, 1:45 p.m.: A police officer was on routine patrol when they stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The police officer determined the driver’s driving status in the state of Washington was suspended in the 3rd degree. The driver was arrested and given a criminal citation for driving while license suspended in the 3rd degree, and then released. The driver had a licensed driver come and pick up the vehicle.
