Grace Lutheran Church celebrates 100 years

The Blaine Grace Lutheran Church congregation is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The church was originally established by Icelandic immigrants working as fisherman and cannery workers, and has remained strong for over a century.

To celebrate the milestone, organizers are planning a special service on October 12. Pastor Aaron Zuch will give the weekly service, and Pastor Dennis Wildermuth, who was pastor for more than 30 years, will be coming out of retirement for the anniversary service. The choir will perform a series of traditional Icelandic hymns to honor the church’s heritage. Long-time members of the congregation will be invited to share anecdotes from throughout the history of the church and reminisce about how the town has changed.

Pastor Paul Linnemann, the president of the Northwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) will be in attendance to commemorate the event. The Northwest District of the LCMS oversees congregations in Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Blaine Grace Lutheran Church is located on the corner of 7th and G streets in Blaine. Worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, and the commemorative service will begin at noon. Anyone in the community is welcome to attend.
