Girls basketball

Blaine girls varsity basketball finished the regular season with a 56–41 loss at Nooksack Valley on February 6. Hailey Pike scored 12 points and Krystin Kamrath scored nine. After the loss, Blaine had a 5–15 record.

Blaine qualified for the district half tournament in the 10th seed and was scheduled to play seventh-seeded Cedarcrest (14–6) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at Cedarcrest High School.

Girls Wrestling

Blaine placed 22nd out of 28 schools at the girls Class 2A Sub-Regional tournament on February 7-8 at Squalicum High School.

Blaine’s top placer, freshman Genesis Vazquez, placed fourth and qualified for the Regional tournament, on February 15 at Sedro-Woolley High School. For the rest of the Blaine girls, the season is over.

“This year has been a really good year for the team,” head coach Damon Higgins said. “The future for the team looks really bright. We lose an amazing senior in Taylee McCormick, but we have others who can step up.”

Editor’s note: Genesis Vazquez tied for third at both the Viking Girls Invitational and Lady Hawk Invite tournaments, not fourth, as previously reported. We regret the error.
