The Editor:
I was appalled to read that state Senator Doug Erickson is planning to introduce a bill in the Legislature that would classify protests as “domestic terrorism,” and allow them to be prosecuted as a felony.
Protests have been a part of our country’s history, beginning with the Boston Tea Party and including the sit-ins in the South and the Martin Luther King March in Washington D.C. They may cause some inconvenience, but they usually bring about positive change.
Hindering our right to assemble and protest is the first step in impinging on our freedoms and taking away our rights as Americans. Don’t let this happen!
