Andy Marshall, choir director for Blaine Middle School and Blaine High School, has been named the Blaine School District's 2026 Teacher of the Year for grades 6 to 12.

The district recognized Marshall for his dedication to students and leadership within the school community. "His leadership, encouragement, and support help inspire students both inside and outside the classroom," the district said in its announcement.

Marshall also serves as recruitment and jazz choir director for the Blaine Harbor Music Camp, a role he has held since relocating permanently to Blaine with his wife in 2020. He first connected with the camp between 2012 and 2014. In addition to his teaching duties, he performs with Male Ensemble Northwest, a regional choral group.

His background includes teaching at Squalicum High School in Bellingham and the International School Bangkok in Thailand, performing professionally with the a cappella group Kickshaw, and serving with the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa. He holds a master's degree in teaching from Western Washington University.

Nick Biello, artistic director of the Blaine Harbor Music Festival, called Marshall "an extraordinary educator and leader" and praised his commitment to music education and students.

Registration is open for the 2026 Blaine Harbor Music Camp, scheduled for July 12–18. The weeklong residential program is open to students age 12 to 20 and offers instruction in jazz, choir, band, orchestra, and chamber music. Registrations can be made at blaineharbormusicfestival.org/camp.
