The Editor:
It has come to my attention that The Plover, Blaine’s historic ferry, may cease operations following the summer season of 2026. The Plover is a ferry that was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1997. This ferry is the oldest foot passenger boat in Washington. It shuttles passengers from the Blaine Harbor dock.
Both children and adults delight in riding and steering this boat along Blaine’s shores. Tourists have the ability to visit downtown Blaine, where business is needed and wanted.
Historic sites such as the Cannery Museum, the Peace Arch and the Plover enable tourists to experience Blaine’s rich history, diverse culture and beautiful coastlines.
If you want the Plover to remain one of Blaine’s cultural and historical experiences, please inform Blaine’s mayor, City Council, planning and finance directors, and the city manager of your concerns about the loss of this historic treasure and reasons to keep it afloat.
