In the New Year, plenty of people undoubtedly have something to the effect of, “get outside” listed as a resolution.
Being cooped up inside during months of gray and gloomy skies will make anyone desperate for a walk along the beach, in a shady forest, or just through your local park. If you’re one of the many Washingtonians without a Washington State Parks (WSP) pass, the state parks agency – along with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) – just announced a slew of “pass-free” days to enjoy without daily parking fees.
On those dates, visitors will not need a Discover Pass to park a vehicle at any Washington state park, or on lands managed by the DNR or WDFW.
Birch Bay State Park, Peace Arch Historical State Park and over 150 other parks around the state will be free for the above dates.
WSP’s annual pass, the Discover Pass, is available for $30-35, or $10-11.50 for a one-day visit, depending on the point of purchase, according to a WSP press release. Funds generated through WSP fees go toward parks, DNR and WDFW conservation efforts.
Sno-Parks are not part of the 2025 Free Days initiative, and visitors to Sno-Parks during the winter season will need a Sno-Park permit.
