Lynden High School student Ava Boyd has been named one of 26 National Toys for Tots Youth Ambassadors.
Boyd, who is also taking courses at Whatcom Community College through the Running Start program, will complete a year-long campaign that will promote children’s literacy with holiday events, and is looking to partner with community organizations to assist in her projects.
“I got involved with Toys for Tots because I believe in the power of children helping other children,” Boyd wrote in a Facebook post. “Seeing the impact a single gift can have on a child’s life inspired me to step up and make a difference in our community.”
The program focuses on kids helping kids, highlighting those in younger generations that go above and beyond to help community members in need.
The teen said she plans to set up donation boxes in Whatcom County and host a holiday drive, with the goal of raising $1,000 and collecting 500 toy donations.
